Forever Green field tour

Wednesday, August 12, 2026 - 5:00pm to 7:00pm
Cargill Building, University of Minnesota Saint Paul campus

Co-director of Forever Green, Mitch Hunter, giving a talk on Forever Green in a farm field.

We know that getting to a healthy Mississippi River in Minnesota means growing more clean-water crops. These crops are great for water quality and soil health, and can also benefit wildlife and our climate by increasing the landscape’s resiliency in the face of extreme weather. The Forever Green Initiative at the University of Minnesota is a crop development program whose researchers are developing these essential perennial and annual crops

Now, join FMR for an opportunity to tour the fields where this crop development research is happening. We'll dig into the environmental benefits of these crops and their range of applications from a delicious baking flour to sustainable jet fuel.

Agenda

  • 5:00 p.m. - Arrive at Cargill Building. Refreshments will be served.
  • 5:15 p.m. - Presentation on FMR's work with Forever Green + Q&A
  • 5:45 p.m. - Depart Cargill Building for field plots
  • 6:00 p.m. - Walking tour of fields
  • 6:45 p.m. - Board buses to return to Cargill Building

Accessibility

Participants will have to board a standard school bus with stairs. The Forever Green fields themselves consist of bumpy dirt roads. This event will be mostly standing and walking around the fields. Participants should wear close-toed shoes on site.

Parking

We recommend parking at the Gortner Avenue Ramp which costs $1 an hour. This ramp is about a quarter mile from the Cargill Building. Please plan to arrive early to accommodate parking and walking over.
